It is March 6th 2014 4:08 pm, I am sitting at a desk in an empty training studio. This studio has no affiliation with Greene Multisport. I have no real connection to it, other than the fact that I was hired to train employees of a video game company out of it. I took this job a mere 2 weeks ago, I put in my 2 weeks notice a few days ago. After working this job for only 2 weeks I realized that it was making me miserable. I hated the commute, and my positive energy was being drained right out of me, everyday that I worked there. The job was making me unhappy and making Greene Multisport seem like work. I was becoming burned out, the spark that I had for personal training was being extinguished at an alarming rate. When I started my business my goal was to never work again. When I am training my clients for GMS it doesn’t feel like work. I get to choose my clients, train them how I want to, and do it on a schedule that works around my lifestyle. It makes me genuinely happy to do what I do!
Not everyone has the option to work for themselves. Some people enjoy working for others, it doesn’t bother them at all. For me I am living a life that is built on a foundation of happiness. I know that my time on this earth is limited and can come to an end at anytime. I want to make sure that the life I live brings me happiness and from that can happiness I can help others. The brief time that I spent working for someone helped to show me how much I love what I do. Another lesson that I learned is that sometimes you need to go against the safe choice, and follow your heart.
If you aren’t happy with your job, relationships or just life in general, something obviously needs to change. Being selfish is seen as a bad thing, but I think in certain cases being selfish is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. Be selfish and spend some time investing in yourself. After reading this post take 10 minutes to reflect on your current situation. Really look at your life. Are you happy? Are you healthy? Do you have meaningful relationships? Do you enjoy your career? Ask the tough questions, if you answer no to some of the questions, stop and think about what life would be like if the answer was “yes” instead of “no”
Don’t wait until tomorrow to start changing your life into what you want it to be. Start right now!!
